Kill Drain Flies
Drain flies survive in the most inaccessible parts of our homes and businesses: our drains. Bathroom drains, kitchen drains, floor drains, laundry room drains – all can play host to millions of drain flies every month.
Contamination
These nasty, disease carrying pests can contaminate surfaces and food, and can make your customers miserable. They can be a constant pest in your home, swarming over your damp dish cloths, dirty dishes, and freshly prepared food.
The moist drains, especially, are perfect habitat for drain flies. The organic material that clings to your pipes provides the first food for drain flies, but they don’t live out their lives in that space. They soon fly out of the drain, carrying the organic material on their bodies. They then land on food and food preparation surfaces that we come in contact with constantly.
Swarming
As drain flies swarm, they create an unhealthy climate for humans and pets. They swarm to any moist surface, including pets’ eyes and any other damp area in your home. They lay their eggs in these wet areas, and your drains are the best environment for their needs. The eggs hatch in the moist, nutrient rich organic material in the drain, and the larvae feed on the materials there. Then, the pupae develop moth-like wings and fly out of the drains to contaminate your home and business.
Steam Vs. Chemicals
Steam is odor-free, and kills the eggs that can survive in your drains. You can clean some of your drains with long-handled brushes, scrubbing the drains clean. Chemicals will often clean the drains, too, and will even kill the larvae and adult flies. However, the odor from the chemicals can be quite offensive. While you may be willing to tolerate this at your home, your business simply cannot tolerate this at your restaurant or bar.
Customers are very sensitive to odors – especially chemical odors – in areas in which they are eating and drinking. Steam, however, is a safe solution that effectively rids your home or business of these nasty pests.
In addition, chemicals don’t complete the job. Chemicals kill the larvae and adults, but the eggs survive to hatch a few days after the chemicals have all washed away. Steam, however, is contained in the drain, raising the temperature to the point where even the eggs are killed. This not only keeps the infestation down, but it breaks up their reproductive cycle, giving you longer and longer periods that are free from flies.
